Sebastian will share his account of the 1980s Guatemalan Civil War as a Kaqchikel Maya from the Highlands of Guatemala. This talk will focus on his involvement organizing indigenous communities which began in1976 and ended in 1983, when Sebastian left his country due to state-violence. Sebastian will also discuss his experience as a refugee in the US, juxtaposing the work he did in Guatemala with his endeavors in the US.
